With tensions high for the start of 2021, and the overwhelming feelings of not being clear on what path this year will take, sleep and self-care becomes so much more important. I think we are all putting ourselves at the bottom of our lists, with the never ending new found pressures, meaning a good night sleep is so essential for our mental health and health. Now more than ever need to ensure we give ourselves time to relax and sleep well.

I am going to share a few colour schemes below, and a few sentences to why these colours all aim to ensure you gain a better night sleep, now make yourself a little cuppa, have a rest and take 5 minutes to have a little time to yourself.

Lets begin with the most common colour, and the most commonly used colour in bedrooms…..Blue!

Blue

Blue has to be the best colour to aid good sleep! It promotes tranquillity and is mentally calming and soothing. This is why blue and it’s calming effects are perfect for a relaxing bedroom space.

‘‘Blue affects our intellect. It’s primary action is to triggers mental responses'.’

(Karen Haller, The Little Book of Colour. 2019)

Research has proven that people who have blue as the main colour of their bedrooms tend to fall asleep faster and easier.

White Based Schemes

White promotes both peace and serenity, so is therefore a great colour choice for a bedroom required to promote sleep. White is a very blank canvas, so ensure you add textures and subtle patterns from the same colour scheme that will add interest and cosiness, so it doesn’t become too clinical and boring.

There are so many different shades available today, so try choosing warmer toned whites and heading more in the direction of light creams for the bedroom, rather than cooler harsh whites.

Green

We all know greens are associated with nature, and nature is associated with a calmness, a soothing energy where we feel safe . Greens are a great colour for a bedroom, and can be paired with whites or creams to create a beautiful space. When paired with rustic wooden furniture and added plants, it really allows the feeling of nature to enter the space, thus creating an overall calming and soothing place to aid that good night sleep.

Pink

Pink, mostly associated with children and females….nah! Not anymore, we are seeing so many interior schemes with dusky pinks at the moment. There are such a wide variety of pinks available, from bright pinks, to grey based dusky pinks, depending on the overall feel you are trying to create in a space.

Dusky pinks, as shown in the scheme above are associated with a softness, and are known to promote peace and joy. With a scheme such as this, having added soft textures will have you feeling calm and peaceful in no time.

Lavender

Again, lavender is also soothing and calming, thus makes a perfect choice to create a space that aids sleep. Although lavender and purple colours are known to also promote creativity, so if you are using these colours in a bedroom, be prepared to wake up full of motivation the following day.

I hope this gave you some inspiration to choosing your bedroom colour scheme, and more than that, gave you an excuse to be seated for a few minutes! :)

Happy sleeping, you deserve it!
